Intermodal Market Penetration/Investment: For a major land-based carrier analyzed how a major market expansion should be undertaken from a market and investment perspective.

Freight Rate Analysis: Assisted the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in predicting tonnage levels on the St. Lawrence Seaway/Great Lakes System. Developed an extensive computerized file of freight rates for shipping, rail, and truck movements worldwide. Findings used in comparative transport mode analyses.

Expert Testimony: Expert economic testimony was given by our firm in a Federal Maritime Commission case involving the rail link Mini-landbridge.

Investment and Cost Analysis: Assisted the MARAD in its policy and program review. Compared the financial and operating performance of subsidized and unsubsidized U.S. flag liner operators. Findings used by the Federal Government in its review of the vessel subsidy program.

Energy Impacts: For the Department of Energy, analyzed the structure of the maritime industry and the fuel consumption of all types of vessels from small craft to large ships. A model was used to evaluate alternative technologies and operational changes on cost and fuel consumption.
